Oliver Spratt Romero

Oliver started at ELIS Murcia in Year 3 and left in Year 13 - a total of 11 years. He took a lot from the school, even if some moments seemed small at first glance. Learning IT laid the groundwork for his early programming skills, which proved crucial during the initial years of his company, Nebular. Additionally, learning English enabled him to understand trends in the US, which he later introduced in Spain. Studying Chinese at school eventually opened the door to a trip to China, where he secured one of his company’s first and biggest clients. These seemingly small dots, when connected, have been important in shaping his journey as an entrepreneur.

Oliver, how did the possibility of living in Madrid come about? Why are you back in Murcia?

The opportunity to live in Madrid emerged from a desire to pursue higher education in one of the most vibrant and opportunity-rich cities in Spain. Living abroad gave me a sense of self-reliance and opened doors to opportunities I wouldn’t have imagined otherwise. It reinforced my belief that key decisions, such as where and how you invest your time and education, can define your trajectory in both business and life. However, I ultimately decided to return to Murcia, as it provides a unique environment to establish and grow a business.

How is the job going? What is it that you like the most about your work?

Currently, I serve as the Managing Director of the company I founded several years ago. The journey has been both challenging and rewarding, starting as a one-person venture focused on communication services and evolving into a thriving organization with a fantastic team and a nice office in Murcia’s Gran Vía. What I appreciate most about my work is the diversity of my responsibilities. On some days, I immerse myself in perfecting the tone of an ad campaign or a brand narrative. On other days, my focus shifts to the bigger picture, whether it’s analyzing financial performance, setting long-term goals, or building relationships with clients.

To what extent do you think that your training at ELIS facilitated your current professional life?

My time at ELIS provided an excellent foundation for my professional life. The small class sizes and close relationships with teachers made it possible to dive deeply into subjects and develop a strong understanding of the concepts that have been invaluable in my career. Facilities, ranging from computers to art and sports facilities, gave me the tools to explore various interests and skills. One of the standout aspects of my education was the emphasis on English proficiency, which has been a significant asset in my career.

What about your spare time? What do you do to enjoy yourself when you’re not working?

Balancing work and personal life has been challenging, especially since starting the company. Physical activity is one of my main outlets. I enjoy outside activities like running which helps me stay fit and clear my mind. Weight training is also a key part of my routine. I place great importance on spending quality time with family and friends, particularly with my parents. Another passion of mine is creating content for YouTube, which I initially started as a personal project in ELIS but later integrated into my professional life.

Finally, where do you see yourself in a few years time?

In the coming years, I see myself continuing to lead and expand the company. My goal is to grow our team, establish a larger office, and enhance our presence not just in Murcia but also in other regions of Spain. I aim to work with bigger clients and take on larger, more ambitious projects. On a personal level, I want to keep learning and developing, gaining skills and insights that will benefit both my team and the clients we serve.
