An immersive journey through 15 cultures, brought to life by our school community
On Wednesday 21 May, ELIS Murcia came alive with colour, flavour and music to celebrate World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. The event, which involved over 460 Infant and Primary pupils, was a vibrant tribute to the international spirit of our school.
With 15 countries represented through a wide range of interactive workshops and cultural activities, our students experienced global traditions first-hand — from South African dances and Chinese crafts to a traditional British tea, displays of Spanish folklore, and a musical performance by the folk group Aires de Colombia. The day also featured highlights such as handmade Italian gelato, a horse and carriage with flamenco flair, and workshops from families representing India, Mexico, Canada, the United States, Macedonia and beyond.
The success of the event was only possible thanks to the extraordinary involvement of dozens of families. Their commitment and enthusiasm brought each culture to life, offering our pupils a truly hands-on learning experience that fosters openness, respect, and curiosity for the world around them.
This annual celebration is a powerful reminder of the richness that cultural diversity brings to our school. By experiencing traditions firsthand through those closest to them—classmates, teachers and parents—our pupils build a deeper understanding of global citizenship, one meaningful connection at a time.
