I ELIS Family Day, a vibrant day of sports and leisure in community
Last Saturday 16 March, our Montevida campus hosted the first edition of ELIS Family Day, the largest family event of the school year.
The day kicked off with the XVI edition of the well-known ELIS El Valle Trail race, the oldest trail race in the Region of Murcia, which took place in the El Valle Regional Park. From 7 in the morning, or on the afternoon of the previous day, more than 500 runners from different points within and outside our region, collected their kits.
At 8 o’clock, the most demanding race, the “Extreme 26K”, started, while the “Promo 18K” began at 9 in the morning.
Shortly after, it was time for the Kids edition, for children born between 2013 and 2021, a new feature of ELIS El Valle Trail this year, divided into 4 categories and distances according to age. A non-competitive event in which little ones could participate with their parents and where there were medals, t-shirts, and lots of fun for everyone.
Just a few minutes past 10 in the morning, our Family Club began, where, like in the rest of the events, both members of our ELIS Murcia community and families from outside the school could participate. The theme, very healthy and dynamic like the rest of the day, revolved around yoga and family dancing.
Mid-morning, our Executive Principal, Vanessa Grimward, collaborated with the organisation of the race in the medal ceremony. At 1 o’clock, the first dishes of the different giant paellas prepared on-site were served, accompanied by various beverages. At the same time, the band Fun Play started playing well-known disco and dance music from the 70s to the 90s. Among its members and on bass was Toni Marín, our Technical Director!
Meanwhile, our teacher and Charity Officer, Lola Abellán, collaborated with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation at a stand set up for this occasion. A rangoli workshop was held there while the numerous solidarity projects carried out by this foundation in India were presented.
But, the solidarity of our community was not only shown on our campus. Our teacher Pedro Rodríguez coordinated the collection of food that ELIS Murcia students carried out throughout the morning at a stand located in front of the Mercadona in the Montevida urbanization, for the benefit of the Segura Food Bank.
Good weather, fantastic facilities, and an exceptional community atmosphere in the first ELIS Family Day; a day full of exercise, laughter, and solidarity. A magnificent example of putting ELIS values into practice!
A thousand thanks to everyone for your attendance and collaboration. We look forward to seeing you next year!
